Corte Madera, CA – July 17, 2007 – SL Corporation, a leading provider of real-time monitoring, analytics, and visualization software, today announced that its latest release of RTView delivers high performance and sophisticated aggregation for large JMX implementations – especially for situations where large numbers of MBeans are being accessed – as well as support for real-time JMX notifications. These JMX performance enhancements were delivered in response to demand by some of the world’s leading software vendors seeking to embed RTView into their solutions. Additional performance enhancements relating to the RTView AJAX Server focus on minimizing dashboard load times in the thin client environment.
JMX is rapidly becoming a common, standardized way to provide basic monitoring and management of Java/J2EE applications and application servers. By instrumenting applications with JMX, IT departments can expose what may seem like an infinite volume of application information. In addition, many middleware products are being offered with a broad array of performance metrics automatically exposed via JMX.
With so much information being exposed through a JMX framework across third-party and custom applications, both IT departments and independent software vendors are struggling to glean what’s relevant, and present that information in a way that’s meaningful and actionable. This challenge is further complicated by the fact that, while the information is real-time, it requires historical context to be useful. Furthermore, there can be a significant performance impact when monitoring large volumes of both real-time and historical JMX-driven information across a broad array of applications.
“Many companies are struggling with their JMX implementations. They decide to go with JMX as a framework for application management, but quickly realize that jconsole or open source JMX tools are not usable in a production environment. Then, as they add applications to monitor, they realize the solution doesn’t necessarily scale, said Rodney Morrison, vice president of Product Management for SL Corporation. “We’ve gained a lot of expertise in this area working with our customers and partners, and are pleased to be able to deliver a high-performance JMX management and monitoring solution that gives them what they expected when they first implemented JMX.
The latest release of RTView provides for high-performance management and monitoring of large JMX implementations, enabling the easy creation and deployment of highly customizable dashboards, analytics, alerts, and reports based on both real-time and historical data from virtually any data source. With RTView, users are able to persist real-time JMX data to any relational database, allowing them to compare real-time information with historical information in the same dashboard. For ISVs, RTView provides an easily integrated, branded, and embeddable monitoring and management console that can be customized by their end-user customers.
RTView’s high-performance JMX implementation is highlighted in SL’s concurrent press announcement entitled, ” SL Corporation Helps BEA Extend Real-time Monitoring and Visualization of WebLogic Event Server, and can be viewed as part of the algorithmic trading and airline baggage tracking demos in BEA’s pre-recorded webinar entitled “WebLogic Event Server opens the door for Real Time performance and Complex Event Processing using Java : http://dev2dev.bea.com/pub/e/1106
Additional enhancements introduced with the 4.5 and 4.6 releases of RTView include:
Enhancements to Real-Time Analytics – Customers and partners now have a very easy Java API to extend and customize their own real-time analytic functions. In addition, analytic functions can be defined as “global analytic functions and, as such, can be centrally accessed and used by all dashboards.
Enhancements to TIBCO Monitoring – The TIBCO Rendezvous and JMS Transaction Monitors have been integrated into a single application, enabling end-to-end transaction metrics to be tracked when transactions are using multiple transports. Also, TIBCO Hawk alerts that are designated as notification events can now be used as input into RTView dashboards.
Support for SNMP Traps – Important for integration with systems management software, the “Send SNMP Trap command enables an RTView display to send an SNMP Trap message as would be sent from an SNMP Agent to an SNMP Management Station.
